Warner Brothers has halted plans for a film adaptation of Jersey Boys, according to Variety. The hold comes six weeks after the studio aquired the project's production company GK Films. The movie's lead producers, Graham King and Tim Headington, are said to be shopping the film at other studios including Twentieth Century Fox and Paramount.
While no official offers had been made, actors including John Magaro (Not Fade Away), Dominic Cooper (Mamma Mia!), Vincent Piazza (Boardwalk Empire), Paul Dano (There Will Be Blood) and James Badge Dale (The Lone Ranger) were reportedly approached for lead roles.
Directed by Jon Favreau (Iron Man), the film had been scheduled to begin production in January with a release aimed for Christmas 2013.
Though audiences may have to wait awhile to catch Frankie Valli and co. on the big screen, the hit Broadway musical continues to run at the August Wilson Theatre. Watch clips from the show below!
